UTEP handles Tulane easily to set up Saturday showdown with UAB
UTEP kept pace with the crowded pack at the top of the Conference USA standings, handling the visiting Tulane Green Wave 84-71.
The Miners are in a three-way tie for second place in the conference at 5-1, with Memphis and Tulsa. The three sit one back behind 6-0 UAB in one of the most competitive C-USA title races in years.
UTEP sizzled from the field, shooting a shade under 54 percent for the game. The Miners were led by Jeremy Williams and Christian Polk, who each scored 21 points. The team also made 21 free throws en route to its fourth straight win.
Up next is a Saturday night showdown at UAB with a share of first place on the line. For the first time in a long time, one of the most anticipated matchups in the conference doesn’t involve Memphis.
